This popular tour combines high speed rail with local and narrow-gauge lines that have survived the Cold War and are still operational. We stay in Dresden and Rostock to ride nearby heritage railways, and of course charming Wernigerode to explore the scenic Harz Railway. We also include journeys on the Feldbahn in Frankfurt and the Döllnitzbahn in Saxony.

Our tour to Dresden for the Steam Festival has become an annual favourite. Enjoy lots of steam content over the 18th Festival weekend before experiencing return trips on both the Weisseritztalbahn and Loessnitzgrundbahn. We also include a day trip up the Elbe on a historic paddle steamer.

Another selection of Germany’s tram networks not previously visited by our tramways series of holidays. This year we head to Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Munich, Stuttgart and Essen to visit the tramways throughout the Ruhr Valley.

Our escorted tours to the world famous Harzer Schmalspurbahnen (HSB) never fail to attract plenty of attention. With daily steam trains and over 140km of narrow gauge line to explore the HSB is a delight and one not to be missed. We include three full days travelling on the railway.

We return to ride the narrow-gauge lines of Central Europe. Journey from the Bohemian Czech town of Jindrichuv Hradec and ride the two Austrian lines from Gmünd to Gross Gerungs and Litschau. All pass through enchanting scenery.
